Friends of the Bay

Protecting the area from Mill Neck to Cold Spring Harbor

Begun in 1987 by a small group concerned about the impact of proposed massive development of the Oyster Bay Harbor, Friends of the Bay has grown to be a watchdog for protecting the entire Mill Neck - Oyster Bay - Cold Spring Harbor estuary.  Winner of national awards for environmental effectiveness, today Friends of the Bay is recognized as as one of the most effective environmental organizations around Long Island Sound and is respected by residents, the business community, and government alike.   Friends of the Bay's continuing mission is to maintain for future generations what the NY Department of State recognizes as a “Regionally Important Natural Area”.

Through environmental education and community events, Friends of the Bay fosters local awareness of the need to preserve water quality and marine life. Through land use planning, they ensure that any development within the watershed is compatible with the needs of a healthy ecosystem. And through partnerships with residents, local business, government and civic organizations, they strive to protect the economic, aesthetic and recreational value of our still-pristine harbor.

If you've been to Oyster Bay lately, you'll recognize how important an agenda they have! Thanks FOTB!
