New Cruising Guide Helps with Pet Emergencies

Series of Managing the Waterway guides now covers information on keeping all your crew safe and sound with listing of hospitals, pharmacies, and animal hospitals.

Way to go Mark & Diana Doyle!

A handful of cruising guides consider on-board pets, typically noting anchorages or marinas with pet areas. Fortunately, most marinas and public facilities now have pet-friendly areas or can recommend nearby parks. But traveling with animals requires more than finding a patch of turf. What if your canine or feline companion becomes ill? It's a terrible feeling to need medical attention for a member of the crew (whether a child or a pet!) but not know whom to call or where to go for medical attention.

A new cruising guide for the Florida Keys now includes animal hospitals--possibly the first cruising guide to include emergency medical resources for pets as well as people. Managing the Waterway: Biscayne Bay, FL to Dry Tortugas, FL includes the locations and telephone numbers of each facility so you can find the closest animal clinic for an emergency stop or call to schedule a routine visit for medications or travel paperwork.
