Coast Guard searching for overdue boater 20 miles north Port Mansfield, Texas

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Coast Guard air and boat crews are searching for an overdue boater last seen near Gladis' Hole, approximately 20 miles north of Port Mansfield off Padre Island, Tuesday.

Missing is George Young, 50, of Combes, Texas.

Young was taken to the Port Mansfield boat ramp by a friend where he left at approximately 3 p.m., Monday, on a 29-foot blue skiff with the intention of heading north 15-20 miles and returning to the boat ramp at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Young's friend contacted Coast Guard Station South Padre Island watchstanders at 4:45 p.m. and reported that Young had not arrived and had not been heard from.

A Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and Station South Padre boat crew have been searching the intracoastal waterway and the area Young was supposed to have been. A Texas Parks and Wildlife Department boat crew also performed a search of some of the shallower waters.

If anyone has any information, please contact the Sector Corpus Christi command center at (361) 939-6393.
