Coast Guard Foundation to Recognize Heroism and Mission Excellence at 2015 Tribute in Florida

November 19th Event Honors Brave Individuals from Coast Guard’s Seventh District

The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education and welfare of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced today that it will recognize the dedication of an aircrew during its 22nd Annual Tribute to the United States Coast Guard Seventh District. The event will take place on November 19, 2015 at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

On the morning of January 28, 2015, the six man crew of CGNR 2302 from Air Station Miami left their base and embarked on what would become a distinguished and celebrated 14 days. LT Kevin St. Cin, LT Chris McKay, AET1 Adam Mendez, AMT2 Julio Guillermo, AET2 Mauricio Martinez and AET3 Thomas Espinal faced a multitude of challenges as they monitored the waters of the southeastern United States and Caribbean, and they faced each challenge with the commitment, professionalism and mission excellence for which the service is known.

During those two weeks, the efforts of CGNR 2302 directly lead to the interdiction of three go-fast vessels carrying a total $86 million of cocaine, stopped two overloaded boats with 71 illegal migrants – quite possibly saving their lives in the process, and played an integral role in the arrest of 16 suspected criminals.

“It is our pleasure to recognize the efforts of CGNR 2302 for their outstanding service to our nation,” said Anne Brengle, president, Coast Guard Foundation. “Their dynamic collaboration with other Coast Guard assets, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol and several international allies to interdict drug smugglers, protect our borders and save lives, exemplifies the sacrifice and dedication of the brave men and women of the Coast Guard.”

The Seventh District encompasses the southeast United States and the Caribbean basin including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Totaling an area of 1.8 million square miles, this region includes operational borders with 34 foreign nations and territories.
