Norwalk Aquarium in CT re-opens after major upgrade

The Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, Connecticut reopened Saturday, February 18, 2012 after a $4 million refurbishment. The redesigned aquarium places a greater focus on Long Island Sound. The main hall is dominated by a 36’ by 12’ map that features an interactive introduction to Long Island Sound. Visitors can also play a game about the region’s marine animals and habitats called Found in the Sound in digital kiosks around the hall.

The aquarium features a new 110,000-gallon tank as well as exhibits featuring sand tiger sharks, meerkats, and seals representing the Ocean Beyond the Sound.
