Espresso is fast, comfortable, and very pretty to look at. She is a true racer/cruiser designed by the legendary German Frers and built to exacting standards by Carroll Marine in Bristol, Rhode Island. She is the ideal family coastal cruiser and/or club racer. The Frers 41 won top honors as the Sailing World Boat of the Year in 1989. The Frers 41 is a sought after and rare boat to come to market.

Espresso handles like a charm under both sail and power, with her sleek fin keel, tapered rudder and feathering three-blade max prop. Going forward or reversing under power she is very easy to steer. She is beautifully balanced, easy to trim, and performs well under all weather conditions. Because of her beautifully designed hull she has a very kindly sea motion in heavy weather. Espresso is easily handled solo or by a couple. A beautiful yacht you’ll be proud to own. She has been lovingly maintained by a knowledgable cruising couple.

The layout is both efficient and well appointed. The light and airy interior is teak throughout, with varnished teak and holly sole and removable overhead vinyl panels with teak trim. Accommodations sleep seven in two cabins and main salon. She is documented and has a valid VHF station license for international waters.

Main salon has plenty of headroom, amidships and port and starboard settees (long enough for tall sailors to stretch out), a single pilot berth above to port, custom teak lockers above to starboard, and a bulkhead-mounted teak drop-leaf table with storage behind. Cabin has two opening hatches with screens, one with integrated solar powered fan for ventilation. There is plenty of lighting, including courtesy lights along the floor for nighttime illumination. Clock/ barometer/thermometer/hygrometer mounted on bulkhead. High speed oscillating fan over dining table. Fishing rod holders mounted between ports. Comfortable ultrasuede upholstery in main salon. Muted stripe upholstery in pilot berth and cabins, with coordinating pillows. Ample overhead lighting as well as reading lights over the settees and quarterberth.

Galley is aft to starboard of the main salon. It features 2-burner propane stove with oven and two propane tanks. Double s/s sink with pressure hot/cold water, and fresh water foot pump. Ice box (10-cu ft top loading) has custom shelves, Seafrost refrigeration (engine/110V) with ice maker, timer to prevent battery drain, and foot pump that drains into sink.

Lots of storage below and above in cabinets and drawers that form a custom storage module. Huge cabinet aft holds two trash bins, and lots of maintenance stuff. Two drawers under companionway. Straps for cooking underway. Fan over galley area. Overhead lighting includes one red light for night vision.

Nav station boasts a sit-down chart table with storage, large storage bin, and well thought out and appointed instrument panels. Most of the electronics were replaced/upgraded in 2003. Navigation light with red filter for nighttime chart viewing and DC power plug.

Forward stateroom has a double V-berth w/custom mattress, 2 sets custom fitted sheets, hanging locker, drawers, cabinet, dual reading lights, stereo cut-off switch, fan, and large hatch with screen for ventilation. Access under berth to holding tank and gyrocompass. Hull sides covered with varnished ash planks. Privacy door to close off from salon.

Aft stateroom has a large double berth, hanging locker, drawers, cabinets, mirror, fan, reading light, opening ports for ventilation. Access under berth to auxiliary water tank, storage space, propeller shaft, transmission, salt water strainer, fresh water filters, primary fuel filter.

Head is forward to port of the main salon and features a stand-up shower with 8 foot hose and sump (doubles as wet locker with hamper) vanity with s/s sink, hot/cold pressure water, manual pump head, storage locker, teak towel and personal item racks, teak medicine cabinet with mirror, and full width of bulkhead mirror. DC outlet plug with cigarette lighter/nightlight. Opening port and hatch, both with screens. Solar powered ventilator. All new hoses and macerator pump in 2003.

Water Heater: Six-gallon engine/110V powered installed in lazarette - has winter bypass and drain, so that freshwater water supply is not tainted with antifreeze.

Engine compartment is under the companionway and aft. It is very well designed allowing access to the engine from all sides. Engine has been well maintained by knowledgeable owners. All hoses replaced in 2002.

Cockpit is spacious with removable varnished teak cocktail table, “humongous” lazarette to starboard, and two smaller lazarettes aft, one holding the two propane tanks. Includes white dodger. Plexiglas hatch and drop boards. Topsides finished with gray non-skid. Binnacle mounted drinks and binoculars holder. Large ‘racing’ stainless steel steering wheel, access to emergency steering. Force 10 gas barbeque.
